Petspiration Spotlight: Tommy

Tommy was an outdoor cat that we saw hopping around in our backyard on and off for a few months. He appeared to have a wound on a front paw. We started trying to make friends with him by putting food out when we saw him. He would typically hop away. After a while, we were able to trap him. We took him to the local low-cost feral trap and release vet to get him vaccinated and fixed. When we brought him home, we quickly learned he was not feral and was extremely friendly. We kept him in our garage and had our vet check out his paw. He ended up being FIV+, but that didn’t stop us from wanting to help him. Tommy was referred to a specialist who determined he had a deep infection in some of his bones causing the limping. The garage was converted to Tommy’s apartment. He took a pain reliever and a strong antibiotic for three months. He has not limped since. He is an angel, so loving, and gets along well with our other two cats.
